From the Mountains to the Sea

We’ll help you tell your stories

Who we are

Green Flash Conservation Science is dedicated to not only to the scientific understanding how important ecosystems are changing under human influence, but also aims to be a flash of inspiration by combining new science, exploration, historical data, and local knowledge to uncover the deeper meaning of these vital places and sharing these inspiring stories to help protect these ecosystems for generations to come.

We works at the intersection of science, exploration, and conservation to understand how human activity is reshaping critical ecosystems. By integrating historical records and local knowledge with new biodiversity data we collect in the field, we amplify the voices of place, creatures, and people—helping drive lasting protection for these environments and the communities that depend on them.

A Different Way To Do Science

Born out of deep personal reflection, Green Flash Conservation Science, was started to bring ecological science back down to earth through field exploration & engaging storytelling.

Environmental & biological sciences have strayed from the natural world it once sought to understand. Modern biology is often now confined to sterile labs, computational models ran on artificial intelligence & large institutions.

We felt that the physical & philosophical disconnect between researchers and the natural ecosystems was a detriment to the environments we are all working to better understand, conserve & protect.

Green Flash Conservation Science was founded by Dr. Rebecca Trinh to bring back the old ways of exploration & science.

We are neither a corporation nor a 501C nonprofit at the moment. Started in June 2025, after being laid off as a government scientist, Green Flash Conservation Science is a brand new experimental project, attempting to prove that rigorous science & meaningful change can be enacted outside of the traditional confines of academic and government scientific institutions.

Our aim is to collect field data the way Steinbeck & Ricketts did: directly, with boots in the mud and eyes on the tide pools, armed with insatiable curiosity and surrounded by adventurous colleagues.

Our goal is to step back from the detached, sterilized state of most modern biological research and to bring ecology back to earth by directly observing animals in their natural habitats & telling the stories of the creatures & people we meet along the way to inspire action.

It is advisable to look from the tide pools to the stars, and then back to the tide pools again.
— John Steinbeck

Where it all began

Rebecca Trinh

Founder

After years of studying and working within the confines of university & government institutions, I felt a deep need to pivot to allow my science to reach the audience it needed to to inspire real action and change.

It all began with this idea.

Drawing on my years of experience leading field research from the frozen shores of Antarctica to the tropical jungles of Costa Rica, I took the plunge to start a new science venture based in immersive & rigorous field expeditions & powerful storytelling.

Driven by curiosity & compassion, Green Flash Conservation Science was created to conduct ecological studies in the places that need it most & to tell the compelling narratives from the field that raise awareness, foster emotional connection, and inspire collective action to safeguard these places.

This form of environmental science & conservation is unfortunately a dying art. I hope to revive this scientific return to nature exploration through inspirational documentaries, nonfiction books & blogs.

I’ve known I wanted to be a marine biologist since I was a tiny, waddling toddler. As a child, I was enchanted by the backyard wonderland my grandfather built with his own hands—tiered koi ponds, breeding tanks, chickens, quails, and a parrot older than I was. Like Ed “Doc” Ricketts, my grandfather never received a formal education, but both men carried a deep, crusty wisdom about how life works—for humans and for animals. I was obsessed with helping him care for his animals

Understanding my fascination for the weird & misunderstood animals of the world, my uncle would stay up late to record 90s-era nature documentaries on VHS tapes just for me. These films mesmerized me and introduced me to the worlds of science and exploration. I began to dream of traveling to far-off places, uncovering hidden ecosystems, and telling their stories to the world.

My research career has, in many ways, fulfilled those dreams—taking me to stunning and remote places like Antarctica. But I’ve also found that the traditional avenues of science communication & engagement often feel stifling and limited in reach.

Green Flash Conservation Science is my attempt to revive the art of soulful science & telling the stories of the peoples & places too often overlooked.
