In a modern-day return to the Sea of Cortez, our team of scientists from the U.S. and Baja will retrace the iconic 1940 expedition of Steinbeck and Ricketts—sailing through the Gulf of California and resurveying coastal biodiversity at the same rocky tidepools they visited over 85 years ago, transforming their book into a timeseries of ecological change. This journey entwines the past with the present, enriching our understanding of Baja's fragile ecosystems through a blend of science, philosophy, art, and storytelling.
Our grass-roots expedition is grounded in exploration, authentic connection, traditional knowledge, and creative storytelling and our work is funded entirely by alternative partners and supporters like you.
